Just south of Emerald Estates Park in Weston, Florida, lies a small, unassuming man-made island that has quietly transformed into a vibrant rookery over the years. This secluded spot has become a nesting and resting haven for a variety of bird species, including Anhingas, Wood Storks, and various types of Herons. Despite its photographic richness and ecological importance, the site has largely remained under the radar, attracting only a handful of dedicated local photographers who have discovered its hidden beauty and unique wildlife opportunities.
Over the couple of years I've been acquainted with this rookery, I've tried my hand at capturing video with several cameras.  Although this video cannot not by any means be considered cinematic quality, it at least captures some of the variety I've found here.
Update, Nov 26, 2024
Sadly, it appears this year the area surrounding it has become very unkept. This is how I found it on November 26, 2024.  The park itself remains very well kept, and we can still photograph easily from the northern side of the rookery, as can be seen towards the end of the video.  As this 2024/2025 migration season unfolds, I hope to capture just as much or more than before.
